About Troy M. Ortiz

Troy Ortiz is a dedicated attorney based in Truckee, California, known for his skill in negotiating favorable outcomes and drafting and reviewing complex agreements. He is committed to keeping clients well-informed throughout every stage of their matter and takes pride in delivering practical, strategic legal guidance.

Troy earned his B.A. in Literature with a minor in Legal Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he also worked as a journalist for City on a Hill Press and studied abroad in London. He received his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and fifth in his class. While in law school, he served as Senior Notes Editor of the Thomas Jefferson Law Review, worked as a teaching and research assistant, and completed internships with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, the San Diego County Public Defender, and multiple San Diego law firms.

After beginning his career as a litigator, Troy transitioned in-house with a commercial real estate brokerage in Southern California, concentrating on complex real estate transactions. He holds a real estate broker license and is admitted to practice in California, Nevada, Washington, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Outside of work, Troy enjoys sailing, snowboarding, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. He was recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2020 to 2024 and received the Pro Bono Honors Award in 2013. He actively serves his community as a board member for Sierra Senior Services (Meals on Wheels) and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, continuing a longstanding commitment to public service.
